"Asked for a conservative estimate of the monetary payoff from the coaching they got, these managers described an average return of more than $100,000, or about six times what the coaching had cost their companies." FORTUNE

Coaching gets to the bottom line:

Success is made from many factors; it is not easy to measure and attribute benefits from coaching. Through personal comparisons of experiences before and after coaching most people establish a value for coaching.  Still, we have important evidence that coaching works. Here are a few examples:

bullet

Investing in leadership. Research on executive coaching effectiveness, reported in the Manchester Review (2001, Vol. 6, No. 1) and in Business Wire showed that companies that invested in executive coaching received an average 500%+ return on investment.

The study revealed several specific improvements for the participating companies:

Productivity (reported by 53% of executives)
Quality (48%)
Organizational strength (48%)
Customer service (39%)
Decrease in customer complaints (34%)
Increased retention of executives (32%)
Cost reductions (23%)
Bottom-line profitability (22%)

Executives also reported individual improvements:

Improved working relationships with direct reports (77% of executives)
Improved working relationships with immediate supervisors (71%)
Improved working relationships with peers (63%)
Increased job satisfaction (61%)
Conflict reduction (52%)
Greater organizational commitment (44%)
Improved client relationships (37%)

Employee retention boosts ROI. A study by MetrixGlobal LLC for a Fortune 500 firm and Pyramid Resource group found that coaching produced a 529% return on investment and significant intangible benefits to the business. Including the financial benefits from employee retention boosted the overall ROI to 788%.

bullet

Making training stick. An article in Public Personnel Management (Winter 97, Vol. 26 Issue 4, p. 461, International Personnel Management Association) reported a study comparing training alone to coaching combined with training. Training alone increased productivity by 22.4% while training plus coaching increased productivity by 88%.

bullet

Reduced stress. Other studes have reported reduced burnout and stress levels for executives and team leaders participating in coaching programs.  In addition to the satisfaction if increased focus and productivity, coaching provides a an objective person in whom these leaders can confide or develop solutions for issues. This enhances their own support network, and enables them to respond effectively with stressful situations as they arise.
