Description:
This is a tool
to help you measure satisfaction and effectiveness in several areas of
your life, both business and personal. Because we show up on the job
with our whole selves, your strengths in each of these ares will affect
your ability to manage and develop your career or business well.
Instructions:
Score each statement on a scale from 1 to 4
1 = (Very) untrue
2 = Slightly untrue
3 = Slightly true
4 = (Very) true
Score these items based on your own standards for where
you want to be. For example, your idea of a full and satisfying social
calendar will be very different than your neighbor's. If your social
calendar is satisfying and full for you, give yourself a 4 even if the
same calendar would rate a 1 for your neighbor.
Also, know you own tendencies. Are you a perfectionist,
really tough on yourself? If so, you may deserve higher scores than you
are marking. Your total score may not reflect how strong you already
are. Or, do you tend to rush to give yourself credit for something
before it is really complete? In that case, hold back before giving
yourself a 4 until you know the item is sustainably and verifiably true
for you. Otherwise you may not see the true opportuntity gap in your
total score and be less inspired to develop your strengths and make
success easier.

"Business
coaching often leads to personal insights. Clients are better able to deal
with obstacles and change. It's easier to balance work life with their
personal life. And in some cases, it gives them the courage to pursue a
dream. THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC

Your total score from all columns (8 Maximum) |
Your Score:
There are 208 possible points. However, you can consider
200 the highest possible score and give yourself a pass on up to two of
the items. Not every characteristic will fit you. For example, you may
not want to manage people, or to host parties or events.
What to do about your score? First, know that it is a
snapshot in time. At various times in your life it would have been
higher or lower. If it is low now, don't despair or consider it a
judgment of your worth or potential. Your score today merely shows you
the gap you can fill to make you stronger than ever in your business and
personal life. Real change can't happen until you know where you are
today and look honestly at what you want, need and are able to change.
Now you can think in practical terms about your work and your life and
how you want them to be in the future. Deciding to stop tolerating
important gaps in these areas is decision that could have a profound
impact on your success.
50 - 100
This gap is having a real impact on your potential and
success. Congratulations for taking the step of measuring where you are
now and wanting more. Every action you take to raise this score is a
deposit in your favor. Recognize all progress that you make, and give
yourself a lot of credit for starting and staying with this program. To
raise your score in all areas, you will be building from the strengths
you already have - and you do have them.
Outside support for this strength-training program could
make all the difference. (This is true at every score level.) Work with
a buddy or a coach, or ask a close friend to support you and keep tabs
on your progress. You may also want expert assistance in other areas,
such as health, finance or relationships, to give you the boost you
need. If you suspect that depression, addiction or other health factors
are holding you back, do get professional help. Then give yourself a
high score for "I get help quickly / appropriately, when I need it"!
-
100 - 150
You may be struggling or suffering more than you need to,
or often feel that you are just getting by. Adding 50 - 100 points may
be one of the best things you ever do for your business or your self.
Get whatever support you need to raise your score quickly and gain
momentum, then stay consistently in action until you reach the score you
are aiming for.
-
150 - 175
You clearly have built strengths in many elements, and it
probably shows up as success or ease in those areas. There may be one or
more areas where you often feel defeated or frustrated. It takes some
work to move your score to the next category, but it is well worth it.
You have already come so far.
-
175 - 200
This is where work and personal life really start to
click for you. You probably feel lighter and find that things often come
together for you without a lot of struggle. Congratulations! The closer
to 200 you raise your score, the more likely you are to experience flow,
easy energy and natural success at work and at play.
Raising Your Score:
To be stronger, more satisfied and more profitable, work
in the gap you have just identified. Come back to this assessment
regularly and give yourself points for improvement. Congratulate
yourself for what you are doing to strengthen yourself. Now, hold an
image, as clear as you can, of all the ways you expect to be different
when you reach your strength goals. Keeping this image of what you
really want will provide a lot of energy and consistency for working on
this program.
Make this a game - see how many points you can earn
quickly - this week; in 90 days; in 6 months. Remember to earn
them well, putting in systems or habits so that your progress is
sustainable. Working with a coach is likely to make your changes
easier and faster, with more insight gained in the process.
I
can also recommend a direct path to raising your strength scores.
particularly if you aren't sure where to begin to earn strength points:
work with the Clean Sweep assessment (available
from me at no charge), where you will earn up to 100 points by
cleaning up very specific, tangible items in your life. This is a
great example of the end result being more than the sum of the parts.
When you have reached 80 - 100 on the Clean Sweep, come back to this
Strengths Program and you will find you have naturally made big progress
in many of these areas.
Another way to boost your progress and enjoyment is by
working with a buddy or group as you raise your scores. In this case,
you know that comparing starting scores is not the point, it is
comparing (if you want) and supporting each other's progress toward the
end goal that makes the buddy system powerful.
However you approach this, remember that real change
comes from action - consistent action, not just from knowledge and
desire. Take action, build your muscles in each area, and find yourself
stronger and more easily successful in every area of your life.
